What Is a Linchpin?
A linchpin, also spelled linch pin, lynchpin, or lynch pin, is a fastener used to prevent a wheel or other part from sliding off the axle upon which it is riding. The word is first attested in the late 14th century and derives from Middle English elements meaning “axletree pin”. [Wikipedia]
The company, Linchpin Solutions, was established in 2010 and takes its name from the writings of Seth Godin.
“The linchpin is the person who is indispensable, because they refuse to become an interchangeable part, someone who merely follows the manual. In the hardware store, the linchpin is a lightweight little piece that holds the wheel to the axle.”
